Passage2000Black hair Temari's diameter : 4in. Temari (Japanese thread ball) were traditionally given in order to express love and friendship. I made this temari entirely of my hair. Each hair was tied to another hair one by one, creating one continuous thread. There are thousands of knots in this ball. The process was very slow and meditative, it became my daily retual to weave this piece. Several people I know passed away during the three years that I was working on this ball. When I didn’t know what to do with myself, I kept tying hair and it calmed me down. While working on the black hairball I began to find isolated white hair within my own black hair. I see time passing through my body. When I completed this ball in the year 2000 a new century had begun.
